Was John Mayer’s attempt to smooth Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson’s relationship “just a clever ploy to worm his way into [Ronson's] carnal graces,” as Celebuzz elegantly puts it?

That’s the claim the site makes in its discussion of an “odd (read: OMG, WTF?) celebrity coupling.”

What spurred the rumor? According to Celebuzz, Mayer and Ronson “revealed all about the shocking true nature of their relationship” while in Los Angeles’ Koreatown “over the weekend,” and it has the “irrefutable video evidence” to prove it!

Well, yeah. They do have video. (NSFW, by the way.)

In it, Mayer and Ronson have a graphic conversation in front of a large crowd that included friends and paparazzi. But since Celebuzz fails to mention the very jokey tone of the exchange, Gossip Cop checked in with someone who was there. Our friend fills in the context:

** Mayer, Ronson, and a number of friends partied at the Brass Monkey in Los Angeles.

** It was last Wednesday night, not “over the weekend,” as Celebuzz reported.

** Everyone was having fun and doing karaoke. Among the notables: funnyman Jeff Ross, who sang “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” with Kirsten Dunst; Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine; Mayer, who rapped; and Ronson, whose singing, partygoers report, was “great.”

** As to whether anything along the lines of “hooking up” is going on between Ronson and Mayer, as has been claimed, our source laughed off the story, saying nothing of the sort is going on.

DJs like Kid Capri, Funkmaster Flex and Samantha’s brother Mark Ronson were pioneers playing tracks from different genre’s and mashing them together back in the mid ‘90s, long before there was a label for it. PR guru Sam Ong set me up with a quick interview with DJ Vice and Samantha Ronson over the weekend. They talked real fast and over each other, but kept moving forward, which bodes well for the set tonight. I got about half of it down as all my assistants are traveling while I have been unraveling.

While everyone else races through last-minute Christmas shopping, gossip outlets are busy squeezing in some last-minute Lindsay Lohan rumor dropping.

Having (wrongly) claimed last month that Lohan hooked up with Gerard Butler, BettyConfidential.com now reports that Lohan “invited her new boyfriend Adam Senn” to meet her entire family at sister Ali’s 16th birthday party in New York last night.

Her “new boyfriend” Adam Senn? The star of The City who popped up as a love interest in rumors Lohan already dismissed as “lame BS”?

What kind of scoop did Betty get? Well, the site “caught all the action” at Ali’s party, thanks to an “eyewitness,” who somehow saw a lot transpire between Lohan and Senn… even though the family “celebrated with a dinner for 10 in a private room” of Abe and Arthur’s restaurant.

(Pretty cool that BettyConfidential got a spot at the table! How else would a so-called “eyewitness” get detailed private dinner dish?)

Lo and behold, buzz about Lohan and Senn “heating up for the holidays” soon spread everywhere.

Not that it’s accurate, of course.

This afternoon Lohan Tweeted, “I’m not dating my friend lol, people are nutso.”

We asked Lohan to clarify whether the tales of Senn smooching held any truth whatsoever.

“He is MY FRIEND!” Lohan told Gossip Cop. When we asked again, Lohan insisted, “He’s my friend, silly.”

We’re not sure what Betty’s “eyewitness” saw, but at least we know what Lindsay actually says.

Getting into the holiday spirit in a big way, Lindsay Lohan took part in a beach photo shoot in Santa Monica, California on Sunday (December 20). The “Mean Girls” actress looked to be in a good mood as she pranced around in the sand sporting a cleavage-baring blue swimsuit with a red Santa Claus hat. In between sessions, LiLo caught up on the latest drama surrounding Tiger Woods while reading the new issue of Newsweek magazine. Lindsay will be spending the Christmas holiday with her family in New York City, as she arrived into JFK International Airport last night (December 21).
